Research into Microenvironments for Medicine

We work on material-based strategies to engineer tissue repair and regeneration. Our group develops novel concepts to direct cell behaviour by engineering the cell-material interface. We design advanced biomaterials and biointerfaces to trigger the self-organization of extracellular matrix proteins in a biomimetic way, to simulate the complex spatio-temporal cues of the natural healing microenvironment.

Research at the interface of Surgery, Engineering, and Orthopaedic Medicine

SORL’s research interests encompass the biology and biomechanics of connective tissue healing and strategies to improve clinical outcomes using biomaterials and biotechnology in injured and diseased states. Our primary fields of interest overlap with our surgical colleagues in the disciplines of Orthopaedics, Plastics and Vascular Surgery.
